Acupuncture

How it works

Energy circulates throughout the body along well-defined pathways. Points on the skin along these pathways are energetically connected to specific organs and systems. If this energy circulation is disrupted, optimum function is affected and this results in pain or illness. In our practice, acupuncture points are stimulated by needles, moxibustion, infrared heat, cupping, herbals, patches, hand manipulation and electricity to balance the circulation of energy and restore the body's health and wellness.

The benefits

The benefits of Acupuncture go well beyond its efficacy as an analgesic and for relieving acute and chronic pain. It is an effective treatment for internal disorders, addiction withdrawal symptoms and immune dysfunction. As the nerves are stimulated the body responds, sometimes in as quick as 20 minutes while some chronic problems require a couple of sessions.

Herbal therapy

Harmony and balance

Chinese herbs have been used for over 3,000 years before the use of medicine. People use herbs to balance their body so the body can balance and heal itself. Chinese herbal therapy is unique in that it is used as a preventive measure and to maintain a healthy body. The herbalist views the body as an integrated system and acknowledges that all body functions must be in healthy balance with themselves and with the weather, emotions, seasons and the universal forces. The herbalist finds where your body is imbalanced and brings it back into harmony with itself and the universe. Medicine treats medical problems. Herbal remedies prevent medical problems.

Personalized for the individual

The power of the herb is activated when used in combination with other herbs. Chinese herbalists can leverage their deep understanding of the benefits of herbal combinations to remedy imbalance in a patient. After a consultation, an herbalist will build an herbal formula to balance the system specifically for that patient's individual constitution.

Herbal treatment

Herbal formulations are available in pill or powder form. The herbalist can also create a custom formula in the office that the patient then boils into a tea at home. Herbal formulas are powerful and should always be used under the care of a licensed herbalist as opposed to buying something off the shelf at a health food store. Besides their healing properties, herbal formulas benefit patients as their cost is very low in comparison to pharmaceutical drugs.

Our training program

Our mission

We want to help spread the knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine to those who are interested in learning. This program was only recently established a few years ago with Ge (Anna) and Diana — who both currently work in our practice now. As the program is still developing and we recognize that everyone has different interests, goals and backgrounds, we are designing this program to be flexible to the individual. If interested in learning about practicing acupuncture, therapeutic massage or chinese herbology, simply get in touch with us and we can have a discussion to see if it makes sense for us to work together.

I'm Interested

Expectations

It is preferred that any applicants have some background in medicine, physical therapy, acupuncture or Chinese medicine. The day schedule and length of the program may be flexible for each applicant. The program will consist of both hands-on training and lectures on the theory behind various Chinese medical practices. After the program, we can discuss together whether or not we’d like to keep working together, there is no commitment either way.

Compensation

Due to the individualized nature of this program, compensation is determined on a case by a case basis. Compensation decisions are based on how much you are able to contribute, whether or not you are a licensed practitioner and what your own goals are.
